Doctors’ strike continues in Balochistan

Post  Bolan on Fri Nov 30, 2012 11:30 am

QUETTA: Dr Saeed Ahmed Khan’s release raised hopes that a strike by doctors across the province would come to an end, but subsequent developments dampened the optimism as doctors continued their strike in Balochistan Thursday. Dr Saeed Ahmed Khan, an ophthalmologist, who was abducted 43 days ago, was recovered after payment of heavy ransom Wednesday. In response, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan vowed to continue strike across government-run hospitals in the province until their demands are fulfilled. Balochistan PMA President Dr Sultan Tareen said Dr Saeed was recovered after paying the ransom, adding that the government had played no role in his recovery. He lamented that the doctors have only demanded security from government. Dr Sultan Tareen said the doctors would continue strike until the fulfillment of their demands, adding that the killers of the doctors should be brought to justice, cases registered against protesting doctors should be quashed and those responsible for registration of cases should be brought to book, adding that health secretary should be sacked. —Online
